Danish firm Maersk said that it is ordering eight large, ocean-going vessels able to run on what it called “carbon neutral methanol.” The firm said the vessels would be built by Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries and have the capacity to carry around 16,000 containers.

Researchers at the Korea Institute of Energy Research have developed a “non-destructive” solar module recycling technology that is claimed to be able to recover 100% of a module's glass. The scientists were also able to refine the silicon recovered from waste panels to make six-inch single crystal ingots and wafers.

박기영 에너지 전담 신임 차관은 재생에너지 변동성 완화를 위해 최적의 전원 구성을 확보, 분산 에너지자원의 확대와 시장제도 개편 등 탄소중립을 실현에 가겠다고 밝혔다. 한화솔루션은 RES프랑스의 개발·건설관리 부문과 약 5GW 규모의 태양광·풍력 발전소 개발 사업권을 약 9천843억원에 인수하기로 의결했다고 밝혔다. Hanwha Solutions said that it has acquired a 100% stake in renewable energy developer RES France at $855.2 million to expand its business portfolio in Europe. After completion, Hanwha Solutions will retrieve investments by selling off those projects. DB Financial Investment estimates 700 billion won to 800 billion won per gigawatt.

Small operators can gain profits by selling not only the electricity they produce but also the REC they receive from the government in the spot market.

감사원이 수도권 미세먼지 악화의 주원인 중 하나로 ‘친환경’으로 포장된 LNG발전소의 오염물질 배출 관련 산자부와 환경부에 시정을 촉구했다. 한국가스공사가 카타르에서 2025년부터 20년간 연 200만t 규모의 액화천연가스를 신규 도입, 기존 도입 가격 대비 약 10억달러를 절감할 전망이다. South Korea’s energy ministry said that it had signed a 20-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with Qatar for the next 20 years starting in 2025. “This long-term contract is considered to have favourable contract conditions, which would help stabilize LNG supply as well as to significantly drop fees,” the ministry said.

China’s dayi rail project is the world’s first renewable energy and can travel about 80 kilometers per hour .

Construction of the 100 MW Jeju Hanlim offshore wind farm in South Korea is expected to start in 2022, as the project has now entered design and construction phase. Madrid-based Ocean Winds decided to make an initial investment worth $100 million to establish an offshore wind power plant in Incheon, west of Seoul. In addition, EDPR decided to invest $100 million in solar power farm in Goheung, South Jeolla Province. The company currently operates solar and wind energy plants in 14 countries in Europe and North America.

Doosan Heavy I&C has secured a turbine supply contract from KEPCO E&C for its Jeju Hallim offshore wind farm.

GM announced that its Ultium battery JV with LG Chem is partnering with Li-Cycle to expand America's battery recycling capabilities, promising to return up to 100% of the valuable materials used in battery construction to the market for re-use. "This partnership is a critical step forward in advancing our proven lithium-ion resource recovery technology." said Ajay Kochhar.

정부의 에너지 전환 정책은 석탄감축, 수소경제 활성화, 재생에너지 비중 확대로 주민참여형 이익공유 사업 전개에도 성과는 미미하다는 지적이다. SK㈜가 미국 수소기업인 모노리스에 수백억 원 대 지분 투자를 결정하고 이달 중 계약을 체결할 예정인 것으로 확인됐다. Fuel cell maker Plug Power, which counts Walmart and Amazon as its clients, is planning to expand its businesses in China, Vietnam and South Korea. Andrew Marsh, CEO of Plug Power, suggested that Asia would be an important part of the company's target of achieving revenue of $1.7 billion by 2024, from $337 million in gross billings in 2020.

It seems highly likely that South Korea’s leading battery maker LG Energy Solution might supply cylindrical battery cells to Tesla.

But, in a little over a year, Japna'ts big banks have committed to ending their financing for the dirtiest fossil fuel, albeit over decades.
