China successfully launched another manned mission to its new space station, sending three astronauts who will continue construction work for six months, China's Manned Space Agency  announced. This is the third crewed mission during the construction of the space station, which China plans to have fully crewed and operational by December 2022.

한국형발사체 누리호(KSLV-Ⅱ)의 2차 발사일이 6월 15일로 확정됐고 180㎏의 성능검증위성과 스텝, 스누그라이트, 미먼, 라이브 등 4기의 큐브위성이 탑재된다.  최상혁 나사 랭글리연구소 수석연구원은 “새 정부가 조직의 관료주의 한계에서 벗어날 수 없다면 적어도 우주과학기술 분야에는 기술관료가 많이 포진해 있어야 한다”고 지적했다. Japan’s ambitions, and investment, are welcomed by the US as it tries to stay ahead of China in a potential new space race. Japan has an extensive space programme, mainly focused on developing launchers and exploration probes, but it doesn’t have a human flight programme and has relied on the US and Russia to carry its astronauts into space.

한미가 지난 21일 정상회담 이후 공동 성명을 통해 '아르테미스 프로젝트'와 한국형 위성항법시스템 개발 지원 등 우주협력 전 분야에 걸쳐 한미동맹을 강화하기로 약속했다. 씨티그룹은 2040년까지 우주선 발사 비용의 하락하며 관련 기술의 혁신이 빨라지고 더 많은 서비스를 제공, 우주산업 규모가 1273조원으로 커질 것이라는 전망을 내놨다. 한국형 발사체 '누리호'의 후속 사업으로 추진하는 차세대 발사체 개발 사업에 2023년부터 2031년까지 총 1조9330억원이 투입될 계획으로 본격적인 예비타당성조사가 진행중이다. 차세대 발사체 개발이 완료되면 지구궤도 위성뿐만 아니라 달, 화성 등에 대한 독자적인 우주탐사 능력을 확보하게 돼 첫 임무로서 2031년에 달착륙선을 발사할 계획이다. The Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter is the next step in South Korean efforts to expand its exploration of space and is being developed with cooperation from NASA. South Korea plans to follow up the lunar orbiter with a mission to place an unmanned lander on the lunar surface with a Korean launch vehicle by 2030.

2013년 개발한 나로호가 러시아 기술로 발사체 엔진을 제작했다면, 누리호는 발사체를 포함 37만개 부품이 순수 국내 기술로 개발해 우주 7대 강국에 오르게 된다. NASA가 제임스웹우주망원경 조립과 기술 시험을 모두 마치고, 발사장이 있는 남미 프랑스령 기아나 우주센터로 보낼 준비를 한다고 밝혔다. 리처드 브랜슨 회장이 제프 베조스와 일론 머스크에 앞서 버진 갤럭틱이 개발한  '스페이스십투'의 비행선을 타고 11일 밤 우주 관광 경쟁의 첫 테이프를 끊는다. 브랜슨의 우주 비행 시간은 '유니티'가 모선에서 분리돼 활주로에 착륙하는 순간까지 약 14∼17분 정도로, 최고 높이는 지상에서 약 89㎞ 정도로 예상된다. 과기정통부가 초소형위성 개발 로드맵을 통해 2031년까지 공공분야 초소형위성 100기 이상을 산업체 주도로 개발할 것이라고 밝혔다. 미국 중심의 우주 개발 사업에 대응하기 위해 중국과 러시아가 2035년까지 달에 '국제달연구기지'(ILRS)를 건설한다. Based in San Francisco, Capella Space is building a constellation of synthetic aperture radar imaging satellites that can see through clouds and darkness. Capella’s founder and CEO Payam Bazanadeh said, “As the first and only American SAR company, this further expands our existing partnership with the U.S. government.”

정부가 한미 미사일 지침 종료로 언제든지 발사 가능하고 가볍고 제작비도 적게 들어가는 고체연료 발사체 개발을 추진,  '제2의 우주발사체 독립'을 맞게 된 셈이다. 액체연료보다 순간적으로 내는 힘은 약한데, 이륙 중량을 높이기 위해 발사체에 고체 부스터를 추가 장착하는 방식으로 대형 위성이나 탐사선 등을 우주로 발사하고 있다. The South Korean government is aiming to develop a solid fuel-based small space launch vehicle by 2024 and the development is expected to be led by the private sector. ESA revealed its grand plan for the next 30 years, including research into potentially hospitable exoplanets and the earliest era of the Universe.

South Korea has unveiled a fully assembled model of its homegrown space rocket for the first time since the country started its development in 2010. The testing will cover procedures such as the charging of the rocket's fuel tanks and the separation from the launch pad, which was also developed with South Korean technology.

러시아와 중국이 독자적인 우주정거장을 추진하고 미국이 우주정거장 프로그램을 민간 부문에 넘기며 우주개발과 탐사가 초국적 협력에서 다자간 경쟁 체제라는 새 국면으로 전환되고 있다. 이상률 항우연 원장은 "현재 누리호는 1,2,3단 비행모델 조립이 끝나면 연료 산화제에 대한 테스트를 거쳐 첫 번째 발사를 하게 된다"고 말했다. KARI President Lee Sang-ryool said the 200-ton three-stage rocket, named Nuri, is currently being assembled without a glitch in the process. The Nuri will carry a mock payload for its launch in October ahead of its mission to fly with a 200-kilogram satellite in May next year.

독자개발 전투기 KF-21(보라매) 시제 1호기가 처음 공개, 한국이 초음속 전투기를 생산하는 세계 8번째 개발국에 진입했다. 인류 최초의 우주비행사 유리 가가린의 이름을 딴 러시아의 유인우주선 '소유스 MS-18'이 '소유스-2.1a' 로켓 운반체에 실려 성공적으로 발사됐다. Russian space agency Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Novitskiy and Pyotr Dubrov and NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei successfully launched to the space station from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Their launch occurred just three days before the 60th anniversary of cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin's launch as the first human in space.

우주·미래 비행체 기술 관련 연구개발 및 사업화와 관련해 핵심 기술을 선점하고 원천기술 확보를 위해 항공우주산업과 KAIST가 항공우주기술연구센터 설립을 추진한다. 과기정통부 이창윤 정책관은 "국내 최초로 도전하는 달 궤도선 개발 중으로 내년 8월 발사를 목표로 추진되고 있다"고 밝혔다.NASA has selected nine scientists to join the upcoming Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) mission. The launch of a Soyuz-2.1a rocket carrying a South Korean remote sensing satellite and three dozen smaller satellites was postponed Saturday for 24 hours due to a problem with the rocket’s upper stage. Among other passengers awaiting launch onboard the Soyuz-2.1a is Tokyo-based Astroscale’s ELSA-d mission.

위성탑재체, 위성지상국, 항공전자장비, EGSE·점검장비, 방위산업 핵심부품을 개발하며 성장해온 제노코가 오는 24일 코스닥시장에 상장한다. 블루오리진과 BE-4엔진 관련 최초 계약을 체결했다고 밝힌 켄코아에어로스페이스는 보잉과 록히드마틴이 합작투자 한 ULA의 차기 발사체인 벌칸(Vulcan)에도 공급하고 있다. Kencoa Aerospace Corp. is planning to expand its U.S. parts manufacturing plant in Georgia. The company raised $26.6 million by issuing convertible bonds to domestic institutional investors. “We see an increasing demand for our products with the advent of New Space,” the manager said.

산업부가 3차 항공산업발전기본계획을 발표, 올해 22개 사업에 1153억원의 예산을 편성하고 기술 개발 지원과 핵심 부품 분야 경쟁력을 키울 계획이다. 오비탈 어셈블리가 2025년부터 건설을 시작해 레스토랑, 영화관 등을 갖춘 호텔 ‘보이저 스테이션’을 지구 500~550km 상공의 태양동기궤도에 지을 계획이다. Former pilot John Blincow explained that construction on the space hotel is expected to begin in 2026, and a sojourn in space could be a reality by 2027. "We're trying to make the public realize that this golden age of space travel is just around the corner. It's coming. It's coming fast," said Blincow.

전남 고흥에서 10월에 발사될 한국형발사체 누리호 개발에는 한국항공우주연구원 외에도 300곳이 넘는 기업의 연구자들이 함께 참여하고 있다. 발사대 제작에 현대중공업, 75t급 엔진 개발에 한화에어로스페이스, 부품제작에 에스엔에이치 등, 임무제어시스템과 유도기술, 전자장비 개발 등에 유콘시스템 등이 함께 참여했다.
