"Bildnis Fraeulein Lieser" was commissioned by a wealthy Jewish industrialist's family and painted by Klimt in 1917 shortly before he died. It is due to be auctioned off on April 24 on behalf of the current Austrian owners and the legal successors of the Lieser family on the basis of an agreement in accordance with the Washington Principles. The Kinsky auction house estimates its value at 35 to 55 million dollars, but considering recent Klimt auctions, higher sums are conceivable.

서울옥션 강남센터에서 열린 4월 26일 '제166회 미술품 경매'는 이우환의 '바람과 함께'가 14억 원에 낙찰되는 등 낙찰총액 약 109억 원, 낙찰률 81%를 기록했다. 이날 경매는 국내 경매 사상 최고가 와인이 탄생, 1986년산 로마네꽁띠 그랑크뤼 등급으로 1억 2500만원에 낙찰됐고 고미술품도 치열한 경합을 벌이며 활기를 보였다. While $60 million would be a significant sum for most artists, it is only a decent one for Picasso, whose work regularly sells for particularly grand prices.

The auction houses Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Bonhams have cancelled sales of Russian art in London in June, part of the art market’s response to western sanctions on Russia.
